    Edinburgh's Liberal Democrat MP, Mike Crockart (pictured), has welcomed the City of Edinburgh Council's Connected Capital Programme which proposes to make Edinburgh a world-class digital city by 2015.

    The cost of the Programme would be met by the UK Government's Urban Broadband Fund which is designed to create 10 super-connected cities across the UK.

    Liberal Democrat Councillor Alastair Shields attended the Echline Community Woodland on Saturday 30th June to mark the 20th year of the project. Local volunteers gathered in South Queensferry on a sunny morning to enjoy the scenery and learn some of its history since being established in 1992.

    Councillor Shields (pictured right with Edinburgh West Liberal Democrat Mike Crockart MP) commented, "The woodland is a fantastic part of South Queensferry. Attending the event filled me with great pride."

    Corstorphine and Murrayfield councillor Paul Edie has been elected to lead Edinburgh City Council's Liberal Democrat group.

    Cllr Edie has previously been praised for his work as the Convenor of Health, Social Care and Housing under the previous Lib Dem led administration.

    Commenting, Cllr Edie said:

    "I am delighted to be leading the Liberal Democrats on the City council. I am proud to be adding to the Capital's strong Liberal tradition.

    The UK Government has today announced that Edinburgh will be home to the UK's Green Investment Bank.

    Commenting on the announcement Mike Crockart (pictured centre with Mike Moore MP and Edinburgh Liberal Democrat Councillor Gordon Mackenzie) said:

    "The Business Secretary has today made the right decision and made it for the right reasons. For the past 16 months I have been arguing that Edinburgh is the best choice for the location of the Green Investment Bank because of its strength in depth in both financial services and green technology. It is this co-location that will make the bank a success and make Edinburgh a European centre of excellence for green investment.
