George being installed as Lord Provost
Edinburgh now has a Liberal Democrat Lord Provost, Councillor George Grubb, member for Almond Ward.
In promoting his appointment at the first Full Council Meeting after the elections, Cllr. Jenny Dawe, Leader of the Liberal Democrat Group, expressed her delight at nominating George for the position.
She said: "Born and brought up in Edinburgh, George Grubb has a deep love and intimate knowledge of the capital. He has a tale to tell about just about anything and I have no doubt that he will make good use of his fund of personal and acquired knowledge to entertain and instruct at the many occasions he will have to attend.
"George not only commands the respect of all who meet him but he is also liked - and the two don't always go together. Over last weekend when it became clear that the Liberal Democrat Group would be nominating the Lord Provost, I received many calls and visits from colleagues in Edinburgh and throughout Scotland. I was amazed at how many suggested his name without prompting as an ideal candidate for the post.
"In Liz, his wife, George has the ideal Lady Provost. Liz is as wonderful with people as George is. She makes folks from all walks of life feel welcome and valued. Civic occasions will be lifted by the presence of both of them."
